A Mind for Numbers is a nonfiction book I wish had been around when I was younger and I am looking forward to sharing its very actionable, practical insights in this meetup.

About this event

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ The author of A Mind for Numbers, Barbara Oakley, started out as a Russian language interpreter and spent the better part of her twenties using her language skills in the army, before returning to university as a mature student to embark on MSc degrees, and eventually, a PhD, in computer and electrical engineering.

๐Ÿงช Along the way, she picked up a number of techniques for learning how to learn. Backed by insights from neuroscience, her book is a deadly combination of the psychology of learning how to learn and hands-on tips that are easily implemented.

๐Ÿ“™ We will start out with a general overview of the book and continue with how its lessons can be applied to learning how to code. Feel free to bring your questions for the follow-up Q&A.

This meetup is for you if you:

  • struggle with procrastination
  • find it hard to focus and find yourself easily distracted
  • want to get maximum benefit out of your studies ('work smarter, not harder')
  • you enjoy books like Atomic Habits by James Clear

See you there!

FAQs

๐Ÿ”– How much is this meetup? Do I need to be based in Seoul/Korea? What language is this meetup in? This virtual meetup is free of charge and open to anyone, anywhere. I can have a chat/explain certain bits in Korean if you wish; however, due to the attendees being rather international, I have found that English works best for the time being.

๐Ÿ“‘ Do I have to be a PRO member to join this meetup? No, free and trial account holders can join, too.

๐Ÿ“– What if I'm early/late? You can check in up to 15 minutes prior. You can join after the event has started.

๐ŸŽฅ Will this meet-up be recorded? Yes, and it will be made available on the chapter's YouTube channel. I will let you know when recording starts and ends; I would kindly request that you have your camera on to say hi, at least when the meetup is not being recorded. I understand that some may be camera shy or have privacy concerns but I would also like to know who I am interacting with.

๐Ÿงพ I have something to share with you. Any questions or suggestions, get in touch directly via the Contact Us button below โฌ‡๏ธ.
