About this event

You are going to learn about Effect Hook and how to use an API in React.

What will you learn?

You will get a general understanding of React hooks and how to use the effect hook, useEffect.
If you want to learn more, have a look at

Specifically, we will see how to use useEffect and call an API to fetch data from the web and render it in your app.

Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Javascript is highly recommended.
React hooks require function components, so make sure you have a general understanding of how they work.
You should be familiar with the State Hook

Some preparation is needed, especially if you want to code along.

  1. If you can execute create react app from a terminal, and you see the React app default page in your browser... Congrats!
Do you know how to use useState as well? Great! You don't need any further preparation!
  2. If this is not the case, feel free to follow the setup from or from Learn React from Scratch – Setup.

Ideally, you should be able to have the default react app page running in your browser.

We will start to code from a blank React page.
