Front end developer Josh Klimaszewski will teach a Unit Test 101 class and answer participant questions.

About this event

Josh Klimaszewski, front end developer at Autobooks, will give a presentation about unit tests and walk us through some unit tests he wrote for a To-do list app. All experience levels are welcome, but some prior JavaScript knowledge is helpful.

The presentation will last about an hour, followed by a 15 minute Q&A from participants, so bring your burning questions. Sorry, we will not have time to review individual's projects.

If you would like to code-along live with Josh, it is helpful to have Node and yarn pre-installed on your machine:
https://nodejs.org/en/download/
https://classic.yarnpkg.com/en/docs/install/#windows-stable
The demonstration will use Visual Studio Code.

In the mean time, we'd love to see you in our discord channel!

  1. Join the Codecademy server at https://discord.com/invite/codecademy
  2. In the #chapters channel, find the North American chapters post--it's the first post in the channel
  3. React with a car emoji to join the #detroit channel
  4. Scroll down your list of channels--we might be near the bottom

After previous events, participants hopped on discord to keep the conversation going.

FAQ:

Do I need a Codecademy subscription to attend?

No, this event is free and open to all.

I can't make it but I am interested. What now?

Make sure you're a member of the Detroit chapter and also following our discord channel. We'll keep everyone updated on upcoming events.

What happens if I RSVP for the event but I can't attend?

Don't worry. Attendance is free and voluntary.

Format

We will be hosting our live event online through Bevy, which is very similar to other online meeting platforms like Zoom. Come back to the event page the day/time of the event and you will be able to join the event. The hosts will be using their camera and mics, and you are welcomed to join us. Of course, we will understand if you prefer to keep your video or mic (or both) off and just participate in the live chat. That's fine too!

About "Become a featured attendee"

Once you RSVP you will be prompted with a screen inviting you to "Become a featured attendee". You do NOT need to submit this form in order to attend the event. This is some special Bevy functionality and can be safely ignored.

Registration for this meetup is closed.
Please contact the meetup organizer for assistance.
