About this event

Jaron Lanier is one of my personal heroes - a veritable tech renaissance man! - and I'd like to share the love ๐Ÿ’•, all the while engaging critically with his work. ๐Ÿ’ก

You may find this meetup useful if:

๐Ÿ’พ you too watched 'The Social Dilemma' and would like to know more about the cool bloke with the dreads that was interviewed (Jaron!)

๐Ÿ’พ you enjoy reading books about programming and tech in a broader sense

๐Ÿ’พ you like to think critically about the world around you

For starters, we will watch a brief video clip featuring Jaron, followed by a summary and book review of 'Ten arguments for deleting your social media accounts right now'. We will finish the meetup by discussing his arguments, what the ideal social media company could look like and whether you would be willing to delete your own social media.

FAQs

โ“ This is a free meetup hosted by a fellow learner.

โ“ You don't have to have a PRO account but you should have at least a free Codecademy account so you can log on to the meetup.

โ“ You can join after the event has started. No stress.

โ“ The presentation part of the meetup will be recorded (the bit where only I am talking) and shared solely with learners who RSVP'd and chapter members. The rest of the meetup will NOT be recorded to protect everyone's privacy and to allow everyone to feel comfortable asking questions and voicing opinions. During the meetup, I will let you know exactly when I start recording and when I stop recording.

โ“ You can keep your camera and mike off or on - completely up to you. Just watching is fine too.

โ“ Any questions, get in touch via the Contact Us form at the bottom of this page.
